Portland has been known for its eco-conscious culture, but some organizations and businesses are taking sustainability to the next level. From zero-waste solutions to groundbreaking clean energy initiatives, these local powerhouses aren’t just talking about change—they’re driving it with real, measurable impact. This month, we’re spotlighting the Portland-based innovators who are proving that business and sustainability can go hand in hand.

Verde, for example, is proving that sustainability and profitability aren’t opposing forces—they’re two sides of the same coin. Through major advocacy efforts, Verde has been at the forefront of policy changes that prioritize environmental justice, clean energy, and equitable access to resources for BIPOC communities. Their 2025 policy and budget priorities demonstrate a deep commitment to creating systemic change in Oregon. Click the link down below to learn more.

More Organizations Making an Impact

  • Mama & Hapa’s – This zero-waste shop, with four locations across Oregon, is making a massive impact in reducing single-use plastics. By offering refillable and sustainable alternatives, they’ve already prevented over 250,000 plastic bottles from ending up in landfills.
  • EcoVibe – Dedicated to ethical and sustainable retail, EcoVibe carefully curates products with environmental, ethical, and social responsibility in mind. A portion of every sale supports local nonprofits like Equitable Giving Circle, helping to fund vital community initiatives.
  • Friends of Trees – Committed to improving the environment through urban forestry, this nonprofit has planted over 975,000 trees across Oregon and SW Washington. Their ongoing reforestation efforts continue to create healthier communities and ecosystems.
  • SCRAP PDX – A creative reuse nonprofit that diverts tons of materials from landfills and puts them in the hands of artists, educators, and kids. With an upcoming move from downtown Portland to East Portland, they’ll continue their mission of turning discarded materials into something beautiful while expanding access to sustainable art resources. Keep an eye out for their new location!

It’s B Corp Month! Why It Matters

March is B Corp Month, a time to celebrate businesses that meet the highest standards of social and environmental impact. Certified B Corps commit to balancing purpose and profit, ensuring sustainability is at the core of what they do. In a marketplace where transparency is often lacking, it can be hard to know where to make your purchases. That’s why shopping B Corp means shopping with confidence—knowing your purchase supports ethical practices and a healthier planet.

Chocolat-e Inc. – Founded in Oregon and newly B Corp certified, Chocolat-e Inc. is currently the state’s first and only B Corp-certified chocolatier. They ethically source cocoa, ensure fair wages, use eco-friendly packaging, and donate up to 10% of profits to Ukandu, supporting children and families impacted by cancer.

Supporting B Corps like Chocolat-e Inc. means supporting companies that are actively making the world better. Look for the Certified B Corp logo when you shop this month and beyond! Or, click the button below to search the Bcorp website for all your needs!
