Reading Time: 2 minutes

In a world filled with material abundance, the true value of experiences often helps strengthen organizational culture.

How do you do this in an inclusive way? Here are a few tips:

  • Remove gendered language for holiday plus 1’s.
  • Consider dry events for sober teams.
  • Rotate planning for holiday events.
  • Be flexible with scheduling and PTO.
  • Be thoughtful when prioritizing dominant culture.
  • Respect and trust diverse identities to make choices about events they attend.

Celebrating Diverse Holidays

Promoting diversity of holidays and cultures around Christmas in the workplace is an initiative that fosters inclusivity and a sense of belonging.

Here are some ways to achieve this:

  1. Holiday Decoration Diversity:
Encourage employees to decorate their workspaces with symbols and decorations from various cultural celebrations.
  2. Education and Awareness:
Organize informational sessions or workshops where employees can learn about different cultural celebrations and holidays.
  3. Potluck Celebrations:
Host a holiday potluck where employees can bring dishes representing their cultural or religious celebrations.
  4. Inclusive Greetings:
Encourage employees to use inclusive greetings that acknowledge various holidays. For instance, “Happy Holidays,” “Season’s Greetings,” are inclusive phrases that encompass a range of celebrations.

Checking In With Yourself!

At the end of the year, a lot of us check in with ourselves personally and professionally.

At CTP, we use reflection questions to ensure we are in tune with ourselves.

Here are some reflection questions that can help encourage open conversations and vulnerability during the holiday season:

  • What is something you’re grateful for this year that you haven’t shared yet?
  • Can you recall a personal challenge you faced and overcame? What did you learn from it?
  • Is there a dream or goal you’ve been hesitant to pursue? What’s holding you back?
  • What’s a memorable experience from your past that shaped who you are today?
  • Have you ever received advice that profoundly influenced your life? What was it?

These reflection questions can help initiate meaningful discussions, foster deeper connections, and encourage everyone to open up and be vulnerable in a safe and supportive environment.
